Boston Scores Hosts Annual SuperCopa Tournament

June 10, 2024

Boston Scores hosted our annual SuperCopa Tournament at Pope John Paul II Park on Saturday, June 8 to wrap up the spring season.

During the morning session, students from 12 different elementary schools plus our Salesian Boys and Girls Club team competed, showcasing their skills and growth from the spring season. The day also included a tent where students presented their Writing for the Community service learning projects. Projects included beach clean up days, handing out cards on Mother’s Day, donating supplies to teens in foster care, planting a community garden at their school and more! Over 100 students who are moving on from elementary school to middle school received recognition awards, and the season’s fair play awards for consistent sportsmanship were presented.

The afternoon session kicked off with the middle school awards, including 80 leadership awards for 8th grade students moving onto high school as well as the fair play award, which went to the Hurley K-8 School boys. Overall, students from 9 middle schools took part in a competitive tournament. After group stage play, the tournament progressed to semifinals and finals. On the boys side, the Thomas A. Edison K-8 School beat Gardner Pilot Academy in the final. In the girls final after the 11th round of a penalty shootout that included 22 penalty kicks and 11 saves, the Donald McKay School outlasted the Haley Pilot School.

Thanks to the great cohort of staff and volunteers who helped set up goals, mark the fields, referee games, field marshal and cheer the scholar-athletes on, we had a great day celebrating our young people and all they accomplished this spring season.
