22 Boston SCORES poet-athletes got the call every young soccer fan dreams about: walking World Cup players onto the field. It happened through a partnership with Quaker and Common Goal, which brought poet-athletes from eight SCORES affiliates onto World Cup pitches for more than 30 matches this summer.
For Boston SCORES, that meant the tunnel at Gillette Stadium before the France vs Morocco quarterfinal match — poet-athletes lined up, nerves and all, waiting to walk out with some of the best players in the world.

Boston SCORES staff member Taylor Ambrose, who accompanied the students to the game, spoke highly of the player-escort program, saying “it was an incredible experience to witness our students create what will undoubtedly become a core memory. Moments like these build a sense of community among students who may attend different schools but share a passion for the game. They also remind us, as staff, why this work matters. Seeing the joy, excitement, and connection our students experienced reinforced the lasting impact that our programming, relationships, and community have on young people across the city. These opportunities go far beyond soccer, they inspire belonging, broaden perspectives, and create memories that will stay with our students for years to come.”
