To create this environment, Boston SCORES has implemented this Code of Conduct for all coaches, site coordinators, and spectators at our soccer games.
These guidelines, adopted from the Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) League Zero Tolerance Policy read as follows:
1. All individuals responsible for a team and all spectators shall support the referee’s decisions. Failure to do so undermines the referee’s authority and has the potential of creating a hostile environment for our players, referees, and all the other participants and spectators.
2. No one except players are to speak to the referee before, during or after the game. Coaches may ask questions before the game, call for substitutions and point out emergencies during the game, or respond to the referee if addressed. All player and coach communications with referees should be conducted in a respectful manner.
3. There is absolutely no disputing calls during or after the game and no direct or indirect remarks to the referee to watch certain players or attend to rough play. No yelling at the referee, and no criticism, sarcasm, harassment, intimidation, or feedback of any kind before, during, or after the game.
4. For Coaches: If a coach fails to follow this code of conduct, they will be required to have a conversation with Boston SCORES staff. If the first instance is egregious or if a second instance occurs, Boston SCORES staff will meet with the coach to determine if there is alignment between the individual and Boston SCORES’ mission and values.
Team and coach adherence to this code of conduct is reflected in the game day Fairplay ratings completed by the Boston Scores Game Day Representative. Teams and coaches with consistently low scores will be contacted by Boston SCORES staff.
