Cryptocurrency Donations

Our mission is to provide urban youth with team-based education programs that promote health and well-being, academic engagement, and civic leadership. By donating cryptocurrency to Boston Scores, you play an important role in helping us carry out our mission – thank you!

If you have any questions about your donation, please send an email to kelly@bostonscores.org.

Boston Scores works with BitPay to accept cryptocurrency donations in the following digital currencies:

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Dogecoin (DOGE)
  • 4 USD-pegged stablecoins (GUSD, USDC, PAX, and BUSD)

The IRS has issued guidelines stating that cryptocurrency is to be treated as property for federal tax purposes. Donating appreciated property to charity may offer a compelling tax benefit, as it allows you to deduct donated property that otherwise would have been subject to capital gains tax. Please speak with your financial advisor for information on how to properly record your cryptocurrency donation. Boston Scores is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Tax ID: 04-3482756.

Important notes on cryptocurrency donations:

  • Boston Scores uses BitPay, a secure platform, to process its cryptocurrency donations. BitPay receives donations, sells the cryptocurrency, and deposits proceeds as USD in a Boston Scores bank account. Your donation receipt will reflect the value of the cryptocurrency when received.
  • For the avoidance of risk, Boston Scores does not maintain a reserve of cryptocurrency. Therefore, all cryptocurrency donations to Boston Scores are final.
  • Because cryptocurrency networks typically have a high carbon footprint, we ask that you consider purchasing carbon offsets to help neutralize the negative environmental impact of these networks.
