Overview

High School is a time for personal development and making important life choices. In addition to playing on a soccer team, with practices throughout the week and one game day, our coaches help students identify post-secondary pathways and grow personally on and off the field.

How it Works

Students hone their soccer skills and learn from experienced coaches for whom personal growth is equally important as technical skill gains. Besides college visits, professional development workshops and soccer practices, students also participate in weekly game days against other towns in their division. As part of the program, students…

  • delve into different college and career choices
  • become experts at setting and working towards goals
  • compete in the Boston Area Youth Soccer League as part of a close-knit team of peers

Our Results

After a year of our programming,

  • 95% of our high school students report a higher level of self-confidence
  • 90% say they have a more positive attitude towards school since participating in Boston Scores
  • 80% say they feel better prepared to pursue higher education after high school
  • 75% improved their fitness levels

In 2017, the Scores/South End Soccer team won the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) Boys U-19 age group in its first year of competition.

“In the time I have been playing with Scores I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and I have worked with coaches that have always been there and continue to advocate for me. The program has taught me so much more than the basics of playing the sport of soccer itself. I have become more confident in myself, I am more outgoing, willing to put forth my best in every situation, execute and always strive to do my very best.”

Program supporters

The competitive soccer portion of Boston Scores’ high school program is operated in partnership with our non-profit partner South End Soccer. Scores and South End Soccer enroll six high school student teams in the Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) league, offering competitive club play for boys and girls at a variety of skill levels at no cost to our players and their families.

How to Join as a Student

Our high school program is available at no cost to any high school student enrolled in a City of Boston public school, space permitting. Practices take place at athletic fields throughout the city. We play outdoors during the fall and  spring and run indoor soccer sessions during the winter months.
