History

Our annual Blast Middle School tournament marks the conclusion of our spring soccer season and the year-long One Hen social entrepreneurship curriculum for Scores’ 6th to 8th grade students.

360 students from 12 Boston public schools come together for a competitive soccer tournament and to reveal the outcome of their One Hen projects, including the philanthropic re-investment of their profits.

The Scores staff awards several Middle School superlatives at Blast, including six-year medals for all students who completed the entire Elementary and Middle School program from 3rd through 8th grade. Other superlatives include:

Fair Play Award

Presented to the program that accumulates the most Fair Play points during the spring Middle School season, as determined by referees and game officials.

The Strong Cup

Presented to the Blast soccer tournament champions for boys & girls, named in honor of the late Anne Strong, founder of the CityKicks urban girls soccer program that later merged with Scores to form the foundation of our Middle School program.

Founders’ Cup

Named in honor of the 5 co-founders of One Hen, the Founders’ Cup recognizes one particularly outstanding One Hen service project, taking into account community impact, student reflection and visual presentation of the project summary. Family members of Scores students are welcome and encouraged to attend Blast and cheer on their students.
