Staff & Careers
Boston Scores is led by a staff of 11 that possesses tremendous experience in the non-profit sector, education, fundraising, partnership development, communications, and more! Members of our staff manage more than 120 coach-mentors who deliver our programs at Boston Public Schools and community partner sites. Coach-mentors are recruited from the current teaching staff at the schools where we deliver our programs as well as from the local community and area colleges and universities.
MANAGEMENT, FINANCE & ADMIN
John Maconga, Executive Director
John is responsible for the overall executive management of Boston Scores, including Board stewardship, partnerships, strategic relationships and major donor advancement. John comes to Boston Scores from Courageous Sailing, a youth development organization providing sailing, environmental education and leadership programs for at-risk Boston youth where he served as Executive Director. Prior to joining Courageous, John served as Executive Director of The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, a non-profit organization providing education, recreation and support programs for children with diabetes and their families. In addition to his non-profit experience, he practiced law for ten years in both private practice and as in-house counsel.
Andy Crossley, Chief Operating Officer617-553-4712
Andy is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Boston Scores. In a 20-year sports management career, Andy previously worked in the Olympic Games, as General Manager of the Boston Breakers women's soccer team and founding Executive Director of the New England chapter of the Positive Coaching Alliance. He has designed courses in Sports Marketing and Management for UMass-Lowell and Endicott College. Born and raised in Brighton, Mass., Andy is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta.
Kelly Fletcher, Director of Finance
Kelly manages the integrity and implementation of all financial operations for Boston Scores. She is a Certified Non-Profit Accounting Professional (CNAP) experienced in the administration of federal and international funding. Kelly joined Boston Scores in 2016 as part of our merger with One Hen, Inc., where she served as Finance Manager. Kelly brings keen analytic & organizational skills to the team along with a passion for a moral economy, one oriented toward the common good. She has a B.S. (honors) Open degree from the Open University, UK.
Dwayne Simmons, Director of Strategic Initiatives & Director, One Hen
Dwayne is an internationally accomplished hip-hop artist and joined Boston Scores in 2006 as the Elementary School Education Coordinator. As the organization expanded to serve students in middle school, Dwayne’s role shifted to Education Director for elementary and middle school programs. He developed and refined a middle school curriculum that became the national standard for middle school programs across the America SCORES network, which includes 14 affiliates in the US & Canada. Dwayne most recently served as the Program Director and has experienced the growth of Boston Scores from a program that served only elementary school students to an organization that delivers programs to students from elementary through high school. As the One Hen Director, Dwayne is looking forward to sharing his own experience as a civic-minded entrepreneur with youth in Boston, across the Boston Scores network and around the world.
Ive Mendoza, Program Director
Ive joined Boston Scores in 2013. She is responsible for overseeing and approving Scores academic curricula at each age level and is the point person for our partnerships with Boston Public Schools and Boston After School & Beyond. She is a Massachusetts certified teacher in History for grade levels 5-12. Ive has classroom experience teaching middle school and high school Social Studies. Ive earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Boston University and a Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership & Management from Northeastern. Her favorite team is Manchester United.
Allison Pires, Senior Program Manager (Soccer)
Allison Pires (formerly Colson) joined Boston Scores in September 2016 as a Program Coordinator working with our elementary & middle school age groups. She now oversees soccer & nutrition program quality for our K-8 programs, including coach training, scheduling, tournaments, field space and transportation. Allison played soccer at Springfield College where she received a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science. She completed her Masters in Public Health at Northeastern University in 2015. Allison has also served as the varsity girls soccer coach at Medford High School.
Ethan Goldman, Senior Program Manager (High School)
Ethan originally join Boston Scores as an AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellow in 2014. Ethan manages our Grade 9-12 programs, including academic enrichment, our partnership with South End Soccer, six competitive BAYS teams for boys & girls, and a coach-mentor staff of 12 staff and volunteers. Prior to joining Scores Ethan was a soccer coach and English teacher in Israel with Yahel Learning Service. He played soccer at Clark University and graduated with a degree in Sociology.
Nelson Reyes Soccer Program Coordinator
Nelson joined Boston Scores in 2016 as a student intern and recently completed a year of AmeriCorps national service as an Up2Us Coach Across America member. He became a full-time staff member in July 2019 after graduating from UMass-Boston with a degree in Psychology. Nelson also serves as the Head Coach our U-18 High School boys team and has previously coached at the Elementary and Middle School age groups.
Kieran Collier Data & Evaluations Coordinator
Kieran loves poetry and spreadsheets with equal vigor. His role allows him to thrive at the intersection of the two, supporting programming while overseeing all program data and analytics. Kieran has a Writing, Literature, & Publishing degree from Emerson College and comes to us from 826 Boston. He is an AmeriCorps VISTA alum. When he’s not writing, you can find him coaching Emerson’s quidditch team or playing mediocre pickup basketball. His favorite color is orange.
Helen Ngo Middle School Enrichment Coordinator
Helen joined Boston Scores in February 2019 and is responsible for leading the One Hen program. She hopes to carry on its mission of social entrepreneurship as a vehicle for young people to become engaged members in their communities. Helen is a graduate from the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she majored in Asian American Studies. She is also a community activist within the Boston Asian American communities. Through her national and local work in civic engagement and education, Helen aims to elevate marginalized young people’s voices and empower them to enact change. Helen loves to find creative outlets, like dancing and playing the ukulele.
Ever Barrera Operations Coordinator
Ever joined the staff of Boston Scores in February 2019 after refereeing in the program for a year. Originally from Santa Ana, El Salvador, Ever grew up in Chelsea. He attended Bunker Hill Community College where he was an All-New England goalkeeper in 2014 & 2015. He serves as Goalkeeper Coach at Everett High School and coordinates equipment distribution, game day operations, and player/coach paperwork for Boston Scores.
Aliyah Olaniyan Data Administrator
Aliyah joined Boston Scores in Septemer 2019. She is responsible for supporting the data collection and analysis tasks surrounding programming. She is a current M.S. in Applied Biostatistics student at the Boston University School of Public Health and is interested in learning about the use of data to support non-profits. Aliyah enjoys practicing capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, and taking trips to the many public libraries of Boston.
Sydney Napoleon Up2Us Coach Across America Member
Born in Haiti, Sydney moved to Boston in 2012. He attended the Mildred Ave Middle School for 8th grade and then enrolled at Boston International High School and played varsity soccer there for all 4 years. Sydney was one of the first people to join the Boston Scores High School Program in 2014 and was a member of the program for 3 years. He was a member of our MTOC championship team in 2017! Sydney is now a junior at UMASS Boston majoring in Biology and will be coaching elementary school and high school as an Up2Us Sports coach.
Vanessa Plant, Director, Philanthropy
Vanessa drives our philanthropy strategy, cultivates donors, and leads a talented Development team. She brings over ten years of experience developing and fostering relationships, orchestrating events, securing grants, and marketing. Her previous role was as the Director of Development and Partnerships at Mass Mentoring Partnerships where she managed their 2.6 million dollar fundraising budget through grants, individual donors, annual campaigns, and events as well as developing partnerships with businesses, media, public officials, and community partners to further the work. Prior to Mass Mentoring, Vanessa was the Director of Development, Events and Programs at ALS TDI, a non-profit biotech focused on researching effective treatments for Lou Gehrig's Disease. Vanessa holds a degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Massachusetts Boston and is fluent in both Spanish and French.
Angela White, Corporate Relations Manager
Angela joined Boston Scores in August 2015. As the Corporate Relations Manager, Angela is responsible for managing Boston Scores relationships with local corporate funders and developing corporate partnerships that support the organization's programmatic and philanthropic objectives. Angela previously served an AmeriCorps year of service at North Shore Community Development Coalition where she facilitated meetings between 5/6 nonprofit agencies all looking to collaborate on a Family Resource Center in North Shore MA. She graduated with a B.A in Marketing and Communications from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
Anne Hager, Grant Writer & Communications Manager
Anne is responsible for writing grants and manages external communications for Scores. She is originally from the soccer-crazy nation of Germany. As a nonprofit professional of 5 years, she strives towards establishing social justice for under-served communities. She holds a Masters degree in Politics and Public Administration and is always interested in the latest developments in public policy. Her job as a grant writer allows her to live her passion for language and writing.
Danielle Molloy, Event Coordinator & Development Associate
Danielle joined Boston Scores in January 2019. She previously worked for Playworks as an AmeriCorps Member where she taught BPS students about health & wellness through play. She has also served a special events intern with the March of Dimes. Danielle is a 2017 graduate of UMass-Amherst with a degree in Public Health.
