In partnership with Boston Public Schools, Boston Scores’ 5-week Summer Learning Academy is a fusion of BPS-teacher lead academics and Boston Scores athletic and enrichment programming. Summer Scores provides a safe, fun, and active environment in which students work on their knowledge in Math & ELA, develop new skills, build self-esteem, and make lasting friendships.
The academic morning portion of the program helps students complete any unfinished learning from the previous school year and position students for a head start to the next year. Students engage in meaningful learning activities that connect to their class in ELA and Math. They also work on reinforcing their social and emotional skill base together with their peers and teachers.
The afternoon is geared towards physical activity, exploring new skills, and going on fun excursions. Besides various opportunities to play soccer, students can build upon their creativity and personal interests through a variety of workshops and exciting excursions.
After attending the Summer Learning Academy, teachers assess that around 50% of students demonstrated meaningful growth in social and emotional skills such as critical thinking, perseverance, relationship with adults, communication, self-regulation, and relationships with peers. Around 40-50% of students show meaningful growth in Math and ELA.
The Scores Summer Learning Academy runs five days per week for five weeks between early July and mid-August each summer. The program is available free of charge to rising 4th to rising 7th grade students enrolled in a Boston Public School. Students can enroll via the Boston Public Schools common application form for Summer Learning and must plan on attending all five weeks of the program in order to be eligible to participate. We will update this page with any further info on the application process once it is available.
